Frequently Asked Questions

Am I the right therapist for you?

If you are 11+, struggling with meeting societal expectations, having anger, dealing with grief and loss, depression, lack of self-esteem, difficulty transitioning to a new phase of life, performance pressure in sports, family conflict, or struggles with social media/technology.

If you are a parent or sibling wanting to improve communication, and boundaries, or work on meshing family and individual values with someone in your family.

What is my style?

Not structured. There are 168 hours in the week. I don’t know what you are doing the other 167 hours, but during our hour, whether it’s staring at each other in the face, talking the whole time, or watching your favorite YouTube video, I want you to be able to look forward to being in this space. What’s therapeutic for one person may not be for another.

Am I ready for therapy?

You never know till you try! I am fully understanding that if you try and want to stop at any time, that is part of trying new things in life. I also offer a 15-minute phone call to determine whether we are a fit before a first session.

Will therapy be confidential, or will others know I’m in therapy?

Yes, therapy is confidential unless there is imminent harm to self or others, child abuse or neglect, court orders, and sharing certain info with insurance companies for billing purposes.

No one will know you are in therapy unless you choose to tell someone.

How can I prepare for the first session?

Come ready to talk about why you’re coming to session, be open-minded, and most importantly, be yourself.

What happens during the first session?

The first session is a little more structured. During this session, we come together and create a plan based on why you are coming to therapy.

Now that I've begun therapy, how long should I wait to see if I can trust my therapist?

Like any relationship, it takes time to trust a person. It takes time to feel comfortable opening up and feel confident in their ability to listen and help you with what you are going through. My clinical opinion is to attend at least 3 sessions before making a decision on whether you connect with your therapist or not.

How long are sessions?

The first session is 60 minutes to gather initial information. After that, all sessions are 53 minutes.

How often are sessions?

It is my clinical opinion that weekly therapy is the most effective frequency for meaningful progress. This consistency supports the development and maintenance of a strong therapeutic relationship and provides the continuity needed to explore and work through the underlying dynamics contributing to the presenting concerns. These deeper issues are often the root of the problem and require ongoing, focused attention. While bi-weekly or less frequent sessions can offer space for emotional support and processing, they generally do not allow for the depth of work needed to fully understand and resolve the core issues.

How long does therapy take to finish?

This question depends on the acuity and length of your presenting problem/s, and the progress made on those problems on a day to day basis based on what is learned in sessions.

Is my therapist near me?

I do virtual counseling in Redmond/Bellevue and can see anyone in Washington State.

What is your cancellation policy?

At least 48 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. If 48 hours notice is not given for cancellations, you will be expected to pay the full fee for the session. For rescheduling, if you cannot reschedule within the same week, you will be expected to pay the full fee for the session.

Do I take insurance?

Yes! I am able to take Premera, Lifewise, and Blue Cross Blue Shield on the Premera side.

What are my out-of-pocket rates?

The first session for individuals are $180, and $150 thereafter. Families are $190 for the first session and $180 thereafter.

Do you prescribe medication?

No, but I can connect you with someone who can.
